boyfriend wanted to celebrate my twenty-first by arranging a short staycation for us during the weekends. However, as a Singaporean guy- he was called back for reservice during my birthday month and thus we had to push it back all the way till April (one month late, but better than never). So, here it is! I have been looking forward to a staycation trip and I am really very excited to try out Wanderlust since it is an award-winning Boutique Hotel and I was utterly captivated by one of their theme room, Red Space. It is described on many reviews that it was fun loving experience gazing at the star-like wallpaper together with the space theme decorations - simply the reason why you should choose this room (at least for me). Unfortunately, we were late for the check-in timing at 3pm due to late lunch. By the time we arrived at Wanderlust, it was 3.15pm! Opportunity cost lost (15minutes) as a result - sad. Immediately, we realised that there were three couples awaiting for check-in at the lobby. Since we expected that there would be delay, we settled down at the lobby and started a little cam-whoring session ourselves. After that, the receptionist came over to us and explained the details of our booking. Due to overwhelming response, the Red Space Theme room that we wanted was fully booked and the only room left was the ASCII room (something like computer keys theme). We were dumb-folded by the news which left us really in deep shock as boyfriend specifically indicated "Red Space Theme Whimsical Room" under remarks when he booked through Booking.com. The hotel or even the third party booking site (Booking.com) should have made it clear that it is on first come first serve basis. Apparently, during the booking, there was no option to select the theme for our Whimsical room and thus boyfriend had to made that comment under the remarks. Nonetheless, the booking was made 3 weeks ago and they should have sufficient time to realise that the Red Space theme Whimical room is no longer available. The receptionist serving us is most likely a new hire or an intern with that "newcomer" badge pinned on her blouse. She was totally apologetic over the incident and guilt was written all over her face. We did not know how to react since we were carrying all the heavy baggage with us and postponing the staycation is definitely out of the question. It left us no choice but to accept the ASCII room since all the other Whimsical rooms were taken up - we just had to face the harsh reality. Disappointed with the service, I was really dejected since it was just the beginning of my short getaway cum late celebration for my twenty-first and i could not even get the room I wanted. boyfriend went ahead to ask for the latest timing to check-out (since we did not get the room we wanted) and got ourselves an addition hour extended on the usual check-out timing - at least we were compensated in a way. After settling some paperwork, the receptionist led us up to our room and guided us to some of the amenities available like the Jacuzzi and even the dinning hall (for our breakfast). Upon seeing our room, I started to feel that the ASCII room is not that bad after all. Surprisingly, the toiletries they provided in the room were from Shanghai Tang (www.shanghaitang.com). Isn't Shanghai Tang supposed to be selling clothes? Anyway, the beverages were all complimentary in the fridge. The only thing i was so fascinated about, was the Nespresso Machine with the complimentary coffee capsules and it was totally FOC! Singaporeans simply LOVE FOC! /screams/ MOST IMPORTANTLY! The stairs are pretty steep. Climbing up the stairs could be effortless but the challenge is when you need to climb down the stairs. You have to resort walking sideways or backward as there is limited space on the steps (no room for your feet). What's more, you simply just couldn't avoid the stairs as the bed is located upstairs. I almost fell down a couple of times and that's when the railings really come into handy for such scenarios. I was even telling boyfriend that - these steps are designed in such a way that we have to climb the stairs the same way as we do for ladder; climbing vertically up using the usual walking up motion but reverse backward motion to climb down. He literally laughed out loud. I went ahead to satisfy my desire to try out the Nespresso Machine in the room but I was no better than a 3 year old kid whom can't figure out how to use the machine (I tried once in my company's pantry though). I managed to brew the coffee with some guidance from boyfriend. I cam-whore abit in the room. boyfriend and I literally slacked inside the room the whole day. We even booked LKY musical to watch- for my motive, definitely because of Sharon Au playing in the musical and for boyfriend... I don't even want to mention /haha/ We went down to Bugis for our dinner in the evening and it was just a 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Honestly speaking, it was really convenient. Imagine yourself, just bringing your wallet and hand-phone out for dinner near central town area - that is simply awesome. Dinner was at Bangkok Jam and both of us ordered Seafood Pad Thai- I couldn't finish mine and so I chucked 1/4 of my Pad Thai to him with no sign of guilt. /haha/ We went back to the hotel after dinner and stopped by the Jacuzzi to have a look. It was really a small area and I doubt anybody would go down there since it was really a small one. decided to have a bath soak in my own room instead (that was the purpose for having this because of the bathtub!). bought some bath bomb from carousell to try out and it was helpful! i didn't feel dry my entire skin and i don't know if it really helps. we max out the max to 19 degree celsius and i came out of the bath tub shivering. ran to the rain shower toilet while shivering. breakfast buffet the next morning! i was pretty satisfied with their breakfast as like i always said- i am very picky when it comes to food. bread/crossaint was available. toaster was provided and there are cereals as well. milk/water/coffee/tea are all available at a semi-buffet table. there are also two types of main breakfast to chose- american breakfast and pancakes. boyfriend chose pancakes- blueberry with cream while i took american breakfast soft boiled eggs. the soft boiled eggs isn't soft boiled. it's more of 'hard boil feeling with a little of soft boil' it neither hard boil nor soft boil, it's somewhere in the middle of the two. they didn't have dark soya sauce either, so i ate plain- yes plain. the not so asia style and plus the fact the theme of their breakfast was 'american breakfast' so i couldn't blame them. after breakfast, boyfriend and i went back to the room and took a short nap before we packed and conclude our staycation. we took last few photos before we left! (better to have more photos than less was what we concluded). the background was pretty nice as well- considering that we didn't get the theme we wanted though. In conclusion, i would say that the service provided was 7/10. Reason was we wasn't informed that the aerospace room wasn't available and that they did not provide the choice of other option for us even after seeing our booking. website did not mention that room theme are given based on what is available. Location was 9.5/10. Place was pretty convenient, but for first-timers you will be pretty unsure as considering the hotel was located in a little corner of the street and you would not be sure if you are walking to the correct place. I am born
in 1994- known as the Generation Y to most of the people out there. Let me
prove my stand that I do not intend to change anybody’s perspective on my
generation and I am just stating what I feel about these articles.
Recently was reading online when I saw on an
article on Generation Y and I thought that I should point out a few points on
what I feel about my generation based on the research and the observation I saw
within my group of friends.
1.
When it comes to money, we are very
concern.
At young age of 21, we
have started to save money for future uses. Be it for family, friends,
relationship or even studies. I have started to pay for my own expenses ever
since I graduated from polytechnic, which in fact I believe most of the
students out there are the same. Not talking about those that went university.
From what I know, most of my friends that graduated from polytechnic decided to work full time in the working industry before finding out the desired university degree that they want.
Everything is increasing
in Singapore, unlike our parents’ generation. From housing to car to even bills
(water, electricity, gas, transport) are all increasing. Living expenses and
standard of living in Singapore is upgrading as our generation moves forward.
We can only scrimp and save. Earning money is more than important because
without money- how can we even support ourself?
2.
Time is precious
We hate wasting time. To
us, time is precious. Every single minute counts. Time is money, which leads us
to the first point of ‘Money’.
Even waiting for the
train and that the train is late for one minute makes us frustrated. The living
standard is progressing each year and so is technology. We expect a certain
level of effiency from the transport thus making us a minute longer makes us annoyed-
and what does that lead?
Complaints.
And when I say
complaints, I don’t mean complaints to the management but rather something most
of us always uses- social media.
3.
Relationship vs Career
Most of my friends are
single and not attached. Some can even be around 25 and still single. I always
asked them if they do intend to get married and their answer are always standard,
“My focus is career right now” Teenagers nowadays are always forward looking
thus they don’t feel a need to have a relationship as career is more important
to them.
Relationship is just
secondary. To them, even if without a partner they can seem to live on their
own, so why add the burden of having another person beside you and end up
having to pay double of literally everything?
Ladies are also having
late marriage as work is never ending, so as time goes by and we continue working-
it takes a lot of time and effort and thus this leads to people having no time
to spare to build a family. If they want to build a family- they need time.
Where can or how can they find time when all their times are dedicated to work-
sometimes even weekend?
How is your stand of
Generation Y? Are Generation Y as what outside claimed low savings generation
or do you have yet another perspective on us?
Tell me about it!
Labels: thoughts It was located near my office and it was considered walkable distance. I am not an outdoor person so walking under the heat was as though throwing me into Sahara desert. Anyway, after a long walkkkk (just a 5-10 minutes walk actually), we arrived. My colleague went to the cafe before, so it was literally of her serving me instead. /ops Water and sauce was self-service. I ordered a Egg Benedict because they had limited choices but it makes one contemplate because of the awesome description they had. After deciding, colleague went to the cashier to pay for the food before getting a very cute number plate from there. I can only say, it's really very creative indeed! The taste of the egg with the sauce and the ham was really nice! I would definitely go back for a second time to try another one. /chomps/ Address: 118 Pasir Panjang Road, Singapore 118541 Opening Hours: Mon: Close /Tues - Fri: 11am - 10pm/ Sat - Sun: 10am -10pm Nearest MRT: Pasir Panjang MRT Labels: cafe hopping, reviews Reached there and told the waitress that we had a booking for about 11pax. They told us to hold on while they clear the table. We waited about 15-20 minutes before the waitress had cleared the table for us, and morever, it was pass the time that we have booked. We had no issue since all of boyfriend's friends not yet arrived, so we just stood outside and waited. Once we went in, we realise that the seats they cleared for us were pretty squeezy. The seating wasn't very ample and was pretty congested I can say. The waitress was kind enough to realise and told us that once the two pax that was dining at the end of our table left, they will open that for us, so they told us to bear. We can only shrugged and agreed. The foods were displayed out and it was self service of course. I walked around and honestly, nothing really appetize me. The foods were pretty limited, with just one small area. I let boyfriend's friends to decide on the food and in the end they took quite alot. I didn't like the bacon. I really didn't like the bacon. It was salty and make me very thirsty after eating just one. I left the cooking to the frequent visitors of Korean BBQ and I just ate whatever was available. The only thing I eat the most was mushrooms. BBQ mushrooms are the best! DA BEST. /smooch/ I got very full soon so I couldn't really remember what food were there. They served soups as well- and also chicken nuggets... chicken meat, pork.. I couldn't try their beef because I can't eat beef because of religion practices. I couldn't drink their soup because it's spicy. I didn't eat their rice cake because it's spicy. Anyway, I am not an expert of food, so I am just basically sharing what I know of places since I am pretty picky when it comes to food, and I am sure I am not the only world in singapore with this issue. /cross fingers/ For people who are interested to try Ssikkek Korean Grill BBQ Buffet, address is just right below! The choices of the drinks were pretty limited, considering that it was a cafe. I didn't had any lunch, so decided to order a basket of fries as well. (Chicken Nuggets and Fish fingers were pretty attracting, but I needed potato!) My drink was Summer Peach and was told that it was a tea. Since my mother was a lover for flower teas, my expectation of the tea was pretty high, like up there. However, when the tea was served, the appearance was like... pretty disappointing. It did not look like summer or peachy at all, why the confusing name? The taste was like peach tea, so I couldn't comprehend the logic behind the word 'Summer'. Was it really necessary to be there? (Someone need to enlighten me) It just so happen that The Cathay was holding an event called 'J-Obsession' and I presume that the cafe is linked to the event in one way or another. It was packed with the cosplayers, and me and my friends did not really had the environment that we wanted to have the little chats we had. My friend ordered a red velvet cake and cafe mocha, and he mentioned that it was good. Fries came with two dips, one garlic mayo and one nacho cheese. That was the only part that made me give the cafe a plus point. Subsequently, I told my other friend that had not ordered anything to get me a Dark Mocha Chocolate Cake, and I was served with a candle on it (Early celebration as claimed by my friends since they can't make it to my twentohfirst birthday party). The cake was soft, but surprisingly, it wasn't too sweet for me. (Taking into consideration that I don't eat chocolate). However, the cake layer was a little moist as I continue eating. (Guess it's probably due to condensation as they took it out from the cooler?) He ordered chicken nuggets and paid for it, but to be told that it run out. We changed to fish fingers and it was sold out as well (WHATT.) The waiter was very apologetic and told us to replace it with anything on their menu. Eventually, we chose tiramisu, and I didn't like it as it was soft, and wasn't very appetising. My friend loved it though. Rating given for Bricks 'N' Cubes will be 7/10. Service will be 7/10, given that the cashier who served my friend did not mention of the out of stock chicken nuggets. They managed to get their service a little up there for the waiter who was apologetic and tried to be attentive to us at the end of the day. Atmosphere will be given 7.5/10 as it was filled with cosplayers today so I did not really enjoy my time there though. If you are nearby and trying to find a place to chill (provided you are not a picky person), you can try this out and make sure that there is not any jpop event if not it will be like what I experienced today.
